There is No Threat

Gravity attaches us. It does not ground us. It attaches us to the thing we call ground. It makes objects fall. People fall. It doesn’t pull down. It pulls towards itself. We create the illusion of down so that we can locate ourselves in the vast unknown.

Language frames the vast unknown and gives objects weight. Through words, visuals, gestures, etc., it translates the world around us. This translation structures our behaviors, often blinding us to the value of the unknown - the unknowable, less comprehensible, forgotten, misremembered, misplaced, different, “fake.”

Flashing false threats. Squeezing infinite space through finite details. Defining, binding, and controlling the threat of the different. Language can be shifted to inject fear into micro habits that send shock waves through macro networks.

We are feeling a pressure of another kind of gravity. Similar, but different. A shift. Backwards, or forwards, it doesn’t matter, we are in a loop. We are floating. We are falling. And we are trying to find language for this new ground. A language built on empathy, and a care for the unknown.
